When Simon and Katherine Rogers wanted a new oak garden room at their home just on the outskirts of York, a friend recommended Jamie Winspear of Oak By Design
Their current out-door seating area was rundown and certainly didn't complement their stunning garden with lovely, far reaching views.
After a number of meetings/discussions, Jamie designed a garden room with a raised paved terrace that connected the sunroom back to the house; lifting the terrace also gave Simon and Katherine a clearer view of the garden and surrounding views.
They had already looked at some of the national oak manufacturing companies but Simon said 'Out of the 3 other designs we received, not one had taken the time to think "outside of the box" and create something extra special'.
The 6 metres x 4.5 metres room would have the back wall and the left hand side in block work and plaster-boarded and the front and right hand side glazed. Bi-fold doors that opened on to the garden, running along the front 6.5 metres, would let light in. There would also be a fixed glazed unit at each end of the bi-fold doors.
They were more than happy with the design Jamie delivered and they couldn't wait to order the oak garden room and get the build moving!
Oak By Design carried out all the technical drawings and worked with their builder during the ground work stages, ensuring the measurements lined up exactly with the oak garden room.
The framework and roof was installed by Oak By Design's installation duo, Billy and Ben.
The oak sunroom is now fully installed, with surround sound and lighting systems, which work remotely from the couples' phone apps. They have a bespoke fitted unit for their TV and digital systems. Electrical heating ensures the room is good to use all year, providing the perfect entertaining space for friends and family.
The oak flooring in the oak garden room is from Oak By Design's Kolonial range (it has a brushed finish, so is textured). The Rogers chose the Natural colour for its light finish and to tone with all the oak within the building.
A stunning roof lantern lets plenty of light in as well as providing the perfect star gazing opportunity on a cold, dark night!
Oak By Design had the pleasure of handing Simon a bottle of Pol Roger champagne during the project as he reached a significant birthday (his secret is safe with us!).
Simon and Katherine said at the end of the project "We have had building works carried out in the past and whilst the end result was what we asked for, it was a challenge to get there. With Jamie and his team the journey was so much more pleasurable, he was always there to answer questions and work with us. We needed a few extra electrical details during the project and these were dealt with without issue.
The end result has genuinely exceeded our expectations which, in fairness, is what Jamie said he always aims to do.. We highly recommend Oak By Design".
