Adam first visited Oak By Design in 2016 when he was in the process of planning the renovation of his period farmhouse near Stamford Bridge, a village on the outskirts of York.
He wanted to use a local company who could manufacture certain items and could supply engineered oak flooring
Arrangements were made to visit the property at the outset, and see how Oak By Design could him. Adam subsequently visited the showroom on a number of occasions to look at the products that they made and to confirm his decisions. On the whole, Adam knew what he wanted, so planning the renovation was easier.
Initially, engineered oak flooring was his main requirement. This would be the foundation on which the other oak elements would blend with.
Over the next couple of years, Adam patiently replaced all the doors in the home with solid oak ones. The majority of the doors have been Oak By Design’s double-sided planked doors. These are finished at 50mm and are a solid, heavy door – the Rolls Royce of doors!
Both sides of the door have vertical boards and can have a contemporary handle and latch as opposed to door mounted ones on a single boarded ledge and brace door.
Before the hanging of these doors, Adam replaced each lining with oak casings. These are 3 three-sided covers which encase the sides and top of the door opening. As well as replacing the linings, he then installed matching new architrave and skirting boards throughout the house. To keep the finish clean he chose a bullnose profile.
Oak By Design fumed all the oak Adam chose for the house to give it a lovely rich aged colour. At the time, they also fumed the natural oak flooring.
Their pre-finished range of engineered oak flooring has a Smoked Natural finish board that is the same finish. This is a lovely warm, rich natural colour; traditional enough to suit an older property but still light enough to be contemporary for a young family in a modern home.
The oak flooring is supplied by Esco
A 5 metre long RSJ Cover was also supplied.
Adam also chose oak window cills and an oak fender which were made to order.
A year or so into finalising the renovation, Adam approached Oak By Design again. This time it was for bespoke furniture for the family boot room. He had designed an oak shoe storage system, welly rack and cupboards which perfectly fit the areas of the boot room.
These were made, and then delivered to their home. After their joiner had installed them all, Adam supplied photo’s taken of all the oak products that Oak By Design had supplied over the years.
The oak has provided a traditional feel to what is a contemporary home, perfect for a young family.
