Decision made for new engineered oak flooring

When Joe & Karen Lodge moved into their converted barn in the pretty village of Farnhill, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, they ‘inherited’ laminate flooring throughout the house.

For the last few years they ‘endured’ the flooring but Karen was never happy with it. Joe wasn’t convinced it needed replacing. After weeks of ‘discussion’, they saw a friend’s replacement flooring and Joe agreed they needed to change theirs too!

Oak By Design had supplied their friends flooring so they contacted them for advice.

After discussing their requirements, they took various sample boards home to see how they looked. They laid them in their hallway, living/dining room and conservatory, and lived with them for a few days!

They agreed on the Kolonial, from the engineered oak flooring range. As they have a large retriever, Dexter, they didn’t want a smooth finish in case the flooring was scratched. The Kolonial has a textured finish – it is brushed and this ‘raises’ the grain of the oak, ideal for flooring that may get a lot of traffic! The smoked oak flooring colour is slightly darker that normal oiled version.

They took delivery of the smoked oak flooring in June, and Joe (who is an excellent DIYer), decided to fit the oak flooring himself over a number of weeks. He chose to glue the flooring to the existing floorboards after taking up the laminate floor.

Joe said: ‘from the beginning the customer service from Oak by Design has been superb. We have replaced the majority of our flooring downstairs and we are so pleased with the result that we would have paid more! Fantastic.’

Karen added ‘ the new smoked oak flooring has lifted the house. The floor just ‘feels right’ now and the quality and look of the floor are unbelievable’.
