When local businessman John Mitchell was renovating his stone built country house on the outskirts of Wetherby, his interior designer, Jenny, contacted Oak by Design with regards to providing characterful oak flooring for a number of the
downstairs rooms.
Visiting their showroom, Jenny chose a number of options that she knew her client would like and took them to the client’s home to view them in-situ.
After looking at the various options, Jenny, and her client decided on their engineered oak flooring from the Kolonial range.
This is a fabulous textured flooring, brushed to highlight and lift the grain. ‘Smoked Natural’ was the colour they chose - a warm, deep, natural, characterful colour which looks as though it has aged over time.
A mix of board widths of 155mm, 175mm and 225mm ensured a varied look throughout.
Whilst visiting the Oak by Design showroom, Jenny asked Oak By Design if they could update the existing old pine staircase in the property.
After visiting the property, and taking measurements, a few weeks later the Installations team were on site, covering the newels, replacing the spindles and strings and generally bringing the staircase up to date, whilst maintaining the property’s character and age.
Whilst the team were on site, they were then asked if they could add character to an existing softwood truss in the property. Mr Mitchell ideally wanted a characterful truss and it had to be in oak.
As the truss was structural the fitters ‘covered’ the pine timbers with Kiln Dried Oak covers. Brushing, flaming and adding knocks and dents for character ensured the covers had an aged look.
Each individual part had a 4 sided cover made to fit around it and when finished small proud pegs, added to the relevant parts of the truss, give a traditional look to it.
After the floors were fitted, Oak by Design then made and installed oak steps, which led from the kitchen to the snug and from the hallway to the kitchen.
A fabulous oak fireplace beam was also provided towards the end of the renovation, just in time for the children’s Christmas stockings to be hung up on ready for a visit from the man himself!
