Robert was in the process of selling his home in Clitheroe, Lancashire, when he visited the Home Building and Renovating Show in Harrogate in November 2019.
His estate agent had suggested that the entrance to his home, a converted barn, wasn’t obvious to prospective buyers. As it is at the side of the property, and not on the front, it wasn’t immediately obvious, and Robert agreed!
He saw the oak porch Oak By Design had on their stand at the show, liked the look of it and thought an oak porch could be the solution.
As he didn’t have a large area for the oak posts to stand in front of the doorway, he thought a wall-mounted oak canopy would be the way forward as this would free up the paved area to the front of the door where cars parked.
After the show, at the beginning of December, Robert contacted Joanne and asked about the possibility of an oak canopy.
They discussed the pros and cons of oak porches and oak canopies and both felt that a canopy was the way forward.
A quotation was sent out, alongside a drawing of a wall-mounted oak canopy ordered for another client. The drawing showed the sizes of timbers used for the porch.
As oak is a very heavy timber, attaching the braces of a canopy to the house wall is the most important part of the installation. These timbers need to be securely fixed to the wall using corrects fixings to ensure stability.
After receiving the drawing Robert realised these dimensions were better than the ones he had originally given for the quotation!
The width of the canopy is approx. 1880mm wide, and the depth 800mm deep. The pitch of the truss is 35°.
The next day he rang and ordered the canopy and 2 weeks later a colleague collected the canopy from the Oak by Design workshop in Tockwith.
Over the Christmas period Robert and a friend managed to install the canopy and in January he forwarded the finished photo’s to Oak By Design.
Robert can’t believe that the original drawing sent out, purely for a guide, was the perfect size for his home too!
The canopy fits perfectly around the existing external lighting and house sign!
The canopy certainly shows where the entrance to the house is now, pleasing both Robert and his estate agent!
Since then, the house has sold, and we'd like to think it was the oak canopy that secured the deal!!!
