Oak flooring creating a light welcoming feeling to the home

After looking at the Oak By Design website, Richard Topham decided to contact them to discuss his various requirements for the modernisation of certain aspects of his home.

After chatting for a while on the phone to Richard Penny, Richard realised they’d both worked together for, what was at the time, the Halifax Building Society back in 1985!

Richard owns an interesting detached property in a village on the outskirts of Knaresborough and after living there for some time decided he wanted to update the downstairs area of the house.

He wanted to replace the white panelled doors, the white skirting and architrave, revamp the staircase and the under stairs cupboard, and change the flooring in the hall and dining room.

He wanted a neutral, calm, warm look to the entrance and felt that installing oak flooring would achieve this.

Over the moon with the transformation of the oak flooring

After a visit to the Oak By Design showroom and after catching up with Richard, the oak flooring he chose was from the Kolonial (brushed effect for texture) range. The board width was 190mm and the finish Basecoat. Although a quite contemporary looking board Basecoat still has all the characteristics associated with a more darker, traditional board. – The detailing of the grain and the knots are still present but this is a very natural looking board with the advantage of being light and fresh looking.

The installation team went to his home a few weeks later and new oak door-linings were fit. The existing chamfered architrave and skirting boards replaced with a contemporary bullnose profile.

Replacement of the painted handrail, base rail, and spindles with oak components then took place with the existing newels had oak covers made on-site to encapsulate them.

The under stairs cupboard was rebuilt and the 2 oak doors for it were made from one oak engineered door to fit the awkward triangular area.

The transformation, as you can see, has made for a contemporary welcome to the home and Richard is overjoyed with his new home!
