Adrian Jones' York garden contained a number of outbuildings that the family weren't really using. He had the idea to convert them into a welcoming, family orientated, bbq and kitchen area. By using air dried oak he would create an area that had a bit of wow factor.
Adrian, a freelance designer, had to address one issue. He could not exceed the height of the original building. As the roof line was too low, he had to dig down. He then had to create steps leading to the kitchen area.
The pitch of roof and appearance had to be in-keeping with the surrounding buildings.
The process included a site visit to discuss the overall dimensions and height of the proposed dwarf wall. The oak BBQ area to was have a side entrance stepping down onto a stone floor. The oak frame was designed to incorporate a number of curved oak brackets, so that it would create strength.
The gable end design was also important to match the existing building. This was created in softwood, and painted.
The entire frame was created in Oak By Design's workshop. This ensures make all the components work prior to installation on site. Using traditional mortise and tenon joints, each piece of oak was labelled and palletised ready for delivery.
All the oak was supplied with 2 coats of Osmo Polyx UV Oil prior to sending out.
Adrian loved the finished project.
"Creating an oak bbq area seemed a good idea. Now, especially in the summer, we can entertain and relax whilst admiring the oak framework at the same time!"
