Beautiful Oak Orangery is Arranged By Watching Harrogate Town AFC!

Susan and Ewan Waring are great supporters of Harrogate Town AFC. Oak by Design were thrilled to hear that Susan had seen a post on Harrogate Town's social media page, regarding the announcement that Oak By Design were the new Shirt Sponsors for Harrogate Town AFC.

Susan and Ewan were looking into replacing the existing white, plastic conservatory on their village home, near Wetherby in West Yorkshire. Ewan contacted Joanne Towler, the clubs Commercial Director, to ask who would be the best person to speak to at Oak By Design, regarding their plans!​

Joanne kindly introduced Ewan to Jamie Winspear at the Harrogate Town V Forest Green match in August. He then visited them both at their lovely home a few days later to discuss their plans for an oak orangery.

Having lived in their home for some time, they knew their existing UPVC conservatory wasn’t very usable. As with many of these buildings, they can be cold in winter, as they aren’t well insulated, and can be very hot in summer.​

Jamie showed Ewan and Susan several case studies of projects we had completed for families in and around the Harrogate area. Many featured roof lanterns. Jamie discussed the many benefits of the lantern, which not only floods the room with light but also allows the room to maintain a pleasant room temperature all year round. ​

They loved this idea, and plans were soon underway to replace the conservatory with an oak framed one. It would have a lantern roof, and French doors that would lead out to their existing raised patio.​

The couple also chose to have curved oak brackets on the inside of the room at the corners. These add character and interest.

Benefitting from fabulous views, the new oak orangery would be the perfect place to sit and enjoy the views and garden, at any time of day, and at any time of the year! It would also be a more contemporary building, which would suit their home.​

Jamie supplied the couple with a quotation for the full works. This was to include:​

Removing the existing conservatory.​
Supplying and installing the new oak orangery.​
Installing seamless gutters and downpipes.​
Electrical works, which included spot lights to the internal ceiling, and decorative external
spotlights in the soffits (these can be seen on the photos below supplied by electrician Jason at J H Electrical). ​
Plaster boarding and skimming the internal walls.​

Susan and Ewan also decided to have ?engineered oak floor installed.​They visited the Oak By Design showroom and workshop in Tockwith and looked through the samples of flooring on display. After choosing the flooring, Jamie recommended that they took the sample to ensure they were happy with their choice in-situ.

They decided on the Kolonial range. This is brushed, to give a textured finish. This is a great choice as it can be quite forgiving, especially as the couple have a dog! They chose the 190mm wide boards, This is a great width board, suiting most size rooms. The colour they chose was Natural White, a lovely oak board with a white washed effect finish. ​

The couple also chose to have solid oak skirting boards and window cills.​ All the external oak was to be finished with Osmo Polyx UV Oil - 420.

Susan couldn't wait for the build to start once they had placed their order.

She didn't have long to wait as the build was complete before Christmas, and they were thrilled with the result.

Susan said afterwards that the project had exceeded their expectations. They had enjoyed the team being on site, who were always friendly, and the finished results were fantastic!​
