The process of creating the fabulous oak pergola

Jamie Winspear of Oak By Design met the clients, Martin & Louise Peters, through a recommendation from an interior designer, Marco Schrang. Marco and Oak By Design had worked alongside each other on a previous project and therefore knew each others work.

Martin and Louise had a meeting at Oak By Design's showroom in York. Their purpose built showroom displays an oak sunroom complete with bi-fold doors and lantern roof, an oak porch on stone walls with oak door, a selection of oak trusses and oak RSJ covers.

They discussed the requirements of the outdoor oak pergola structure they were planning for their home in York. They needed an oak structure at the side of the house purely for entertaining purposes. The structure would house an external kitchen, complete with sink, barbecue area, bar and dining area. A wood fired pizza oven would sit just at the edge of the structure.

The plan was to have an external structure/oak pergola at approximately 12m x 6m. The narrow end would be against the house. The plumbing for the sink, gas, electric for the ovens and lighting could then run through from the house.

Once Martin and Louise had discussed a few design options with Jamie, they couldn't wait to proceed.

Oak By design worked closely with Martin and Louise's contractors, who were doing the hard landscaping, to ensure everything ran smoothly.

Oak By Designs installation team fitted stainless steel plates to the foundations ready for the groundwork's team to lay the stunning stone flags.

Once this phase was complete the oak structure was installed along with the slate roof and lead capping's.

The timbers, finished at 190mm x 190mm, created a solid chunky structure. 18 curved oak braces give the oak pergola structure stability and add character to the fabulous building.

Martin and Louise are absolutely thrilled with the end result and have already enjoyed several parties. Martin said "Working with Jamie and his team was genuinely excellent, nothing was an issue.
