Your Porch Footprint Size?

All we require are two dimensions for your porch.

Roughly, how wide would you like your oak porch?

Also, how deep would you like your oak porch?

This normally comes from the outside of the oak posts. You don’t have to be too specific at this stage, as we will always create full working drawings for you for manufacturing.

Answering how much an oak porch costs also depends on the size of the timber. Up to 2700mm (9 feet) wide, we would recommend using a finished size oak beam measuring 140mm x 140mm – anything wider sometimes looks better with a large oak beam measuring 190mm x 190mm. Number Of Posts Your Porch Has?

An oak porch is quite happy to be installed using either 2 or 4 posts.

These posts can either be full height and sit on the ground or small to accommodate a dwarf wall.

However, should you have any restrictions or prefer 2 posts, we need to extend the horizontal return beam into the property by a minimum. of 100mm (4″)

Each post can either sit on a dwarf wall, brick or stone, or down to the ground. If you are considering a dwarf wall, this will need finishing with either a plinth of art stone or something similar.

The Design Of The Porch Truss?

Although you can have any design you wish, the four standard designs are A-D, as shown. The kits allow us to manufacture the component parts, and the truss comes fully assembled, pegged and ready to position.

Alternatively, should you have a specific design in mind for your bespoke porch, the oak framed elements can be made bespoke.

Oak Porches and Roofs

Sometimes it’s nice to have an oak framed porch with those finishing touches.

So, how much will a porch cost increase if oak overboarding is used to create an oak roof? This means that when you look up while standing underneath your porch, you will see oak tongue and grooved boards instead of a painted roof. On top of the roof, you could use slates, pantiles, plain tiles or even shingles.

As well as made to measure and pre-cut oak rafters, we can add oak boarding. This lovely finishing touch will add a quality finish without the need for further maintenance.

The height of your porch may also need looking at. Do you have any restrictions, i.e. an upstairs window?

The Type Of Oak Used On A Porch

Seasoned oak beams are our go-to oak for any porch. Note: green oak is NOT used. This seasoned, or air-dried timber is designed to provide character in its appearance and stability in its function.

Sometimes green oak is used by other companies, but we feel a quality porch deserves a quality, seasoned product.

The advantage of this is that there will be minimal movement or shrinkage from a piece of air-dried oak. This means the solid joints will look good for years to come.

Green oak is a cheaper alternative; however, the kits we provide are of extremely good quality and the oak is specially selected to ensure your porch exceeds your expectations.

The Finished Oak Porch & Complete Kits

The reduction in moisture using air-dried oak over green oak also means we can fully finish your porch with a choice of external UV oils. Every porch kit has fully labelled components that are ready to install.
